Seeking The Mysteries Of The Kingdom - By Pastor JohnThomas IRC Church Canada.

In Matthew 13:10-17 we read that the disciples came to Jesus and asked, why you speak to them in parables. Jesus answered and said unto them “ Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given”

The Everyday Bible says, “You have been CHOSEN to know the SECRETS about the kingdom of heaven, but others cannot know these secrets”

The kingdom of God (or heaven) carries the idea of God coming in to this world. It is the expression of God in His power. This is not a political establishment of a kingdom, neither it is religious and social domination, but it is purely spiritual. God establishing His spiritual rule over here in the hearts of the people.

Jesus said in Matthew12:28 “But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you” A demon possessed man was brought to Jesus. He healed him, thus the man began to see and speak. People were amazed and the Pharisees said, he did this in the power of Beelzebub the prince of the devils. In answering how he did it by the Spirit of God, Jesus said “The kingdom of God is come unto you” in other words I am here, means the kingdom of God is among you.

Secondly. In Gospel of Luke 17:21 Jesus said, “Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you” The one who came down to this earth is in you. The gospel itself is one of these mysteries. Its great secret, Apostle Paul says in Colossians 1:27 “To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory”

“Mystery” in Scripture is a previously hidden truth, now divinely revealed, but in which a supernatural element still remains despite the revelation.

“Mystery” is a truth, which cannot be known by the normal exercise of human wisdom and knowledge. It is the truth about life, which, if we are to know it, God must tell us about it, because it could never be discovered by the exercise of human intelligence.

In Matthew chapter 13 Jesus connects the kingdom to treasure hidden in a field and fine pearls a merchant looking for. For which a person sells everything to acquire it.

Apostle Paul says in Colossians 2:1-3 “I want you to know how hard I work for you, those in Laodicia and others who have never seen me. I want them be strengthened and joined together with love so that they may be rich in their understanding. This leads to their knowing fully God's secret, that is, Christ himself. In him all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are safely kept” (The Everyday Bible, New Century Version).

It is true that there are mysteries in Him that we need to find like treasure or pearl. God's secret is Christ himself. But the revelation of Him in us is by the power of the Holy Spirit must be an ongoing experience. The more we know of Him we grow more in Him. Our inner man will be strengthened day by day by receiving the revelation of Him. We know Him to day as our Savior, Redeemer, Healer, Provider, Protector etc.....but the Scripture says in him all the treasure of wisdom and knowledge are safely kept. It is for his children to receive.

Paul, The Apostle says in his writings to Philippians, that, there is the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus. It is not an ordinary knowledge of Christ but of high level. It is revelations Paul received of Jesus, which helped him to give the right value for the things of God. Further he expresses his desire to know him, and the power of his resurrection. He never stopped the quest to know more and more. Paul knew there is more in him than what he knew.

Apostles Peter and John in their writings makes very clear that they have written about Jesus Christ as the ones who had witnessed His majesty.

Jesus said the kingdom of God is come unto you, means he is with us, among us. Then he said, the kingdom of God is with in you. We are the temple of God. He dwells in us. Paul said “Christ in you”

John the Apostle in his writings goes further to explain to us that “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us....”(John1:14) So John tells us that Jesus Christ is the Word. Today we have the revelation of God through the Word. We know and understand Him through the Word. The Bible is not just a book, it is Him. We carry Him and read Him. Though we have the Word, we do not understand everything about Him just by a casual reading and studying the opinions and interpretations of others. The mysteries of Him must be revealed by God Himself, through Holy Spirit. The Word is given to us in writing by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. He is the best teacher and revelator of God himself.

Apostle Paul writes in 1Corinthians 2:7-12 “But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:

Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

For what man knoweth the things of man, save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God”

Yes there is more in Him that we need to receive. Every verse in Scripture has a mystery for each one of us. The Holy Spirit will search the deep things of God pertaining to us and reveal them unto us. Thus we can live, grow and go forward in Him. We are privileged to know the deep things of God.

Jesus said, we have been chosen to know the secrets of the kingdom of God. Do not be satisfied with what we know. There is more treasure in Him. It takes a seeker to find the pearl. Jesus said I have given you the gift to know the secrets of the kingdom, that means Jesus expects from us that we know more and more of him. Let our desire today and always be to seek to know him more.

(Will continue)
